joomla 1.0.8 and SEF

staram sie uruchomic SEF dostepny w core joomli.
zamienilem htaccess.txt na .htaccess i wlaczylem sef.

po kliknieciu na dowolny link na front-end dostaje error404.
wowczas link w przegladarce wyglada np:
http://www.southampton.info.pl/home/component/option,com_frontpage/Itemid,1/

joomla jest zainstalowana w podkatalogu southampton.info.pl/home (co zreszta jest uwzglednione w configu w live_site i w absolute_path).

probowalem zakomentowac w .htaccess linie 'RewriteEngine On' (zeby nie dublowac odgornego ustawienia na serwerze - o ile takowe jest zrobione) ale dalej otrzymuje 404.

probowalem tez dodac sciezki (zgodnie z sugestia w pliku htaccess.txt) do podkatalogu instalacji joomli w linii
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} ^(/component/option,com) [NC,OR] ale dalej po kliknieciu na dowolny link na front-end dostaje 404.

Wydaje mi sie, ze tak powinien wygladac, u mnie jest nieco inaczej, gdyz uzywam OPEN SEF.

Moj provider pracuje na serwerach linuxa. Gdzies czytalem, ze SEF dzialaja na Apache. Jesli to prawda, to co moge uzyc do zmiany linkow, tak by byly one przyjazne dla wyszukiwarek??
